Official: Barcelona & Athletic Club stars nominated for UCL Player of the Week

A pair of La Liga stars have secured for themselves nominations for the award for Champions League Player of the Week.

As much was confirmed across UEFA’s social media platforms on Thursday.

First up comes Barcelona star Fermín López.

Youngster Fermín is for his part of course fresh off an evening to remember this past Tuesday.

Restored to the starting XI for Barcelona’s meeting with Olympiacos, the 22-year-old responded with a superb hat-trick, en route to a 6-1 Blaugrana rout.

And Fermín is joined on the list of candidates for the POTW prize by Athletic Club attacker Gorka Guruzeta.

Frontman Guruzeta was for his part also afforded a starting berth on Wednesday, as Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic played host to Qarabag.

And the 29-year-old proved himself the decisive figure in a comeback 3-1 triumph for the Basque side, after notching a brace.

Guruzeta and Fermín, in turn, are in the running for the Champions League Player of the Week award, alongside Dennis Man of PSV, and Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha.
