Official: Barcelona announce player sale

La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have on Tuesday announced a permanent departure from the club’s first-team setup.

The Blaugrana star to have brought a close to his stint in Catalunya’s capital? Iñaki Peña.

Goalkeeper Peña had of course long been tipped to bring his spell as a Barca player to an end this summer. The 27-year-old spent this past season out on loan away from the Camp Nou, with Elche.

As much came after Hansi Flick made clear that Peña did not feature in his plans moving forward.

With the Spanish champions remaining well-stocked between the posts with a view to next season, the Spaniard was in turn put on the market following his return from Elche.

And as alluded to above, this week, a permanent buyer have stepped forward for Peña.

As per a statement across Barcelona’s website and social media platforms:

‘Agreement for the transfer of Iñaki Peña. FC Barcelona and Panathinaikos FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of the goalkeeper to the Greek club.’

Barca are understood to have secured a fee in the region of €3 million from the deal.
