Official: Barcelona announce fresh injury blow

La Liga champions Barcelona have on Wednesday confirmed a heavy injury blow in the club’s first-team ranks.

This comes amid confirmation that midfield standout Pedri is set for an incoming spell on the treatment table.

As per a statement across Barcelona’s website and social media platforms:

‘First team player Pedri has suffered a tear in the distal biceps femoris muscle in his left thigh. The player’s recovery will dictate his return to action.’

Pedri for his part featured from the off this past weekend, as Barcelona were put to the sword by arch rivals Real Madrid in the season’s first edition of El Clásico.

Late in the action at the Bernabéu, the 22-year-old was shown a red card, ruling him out of the Blaugrana’s upcoming clash with Elche.

Pedri now looks set to miss several further fixtures, too, though, in just the latest setback amid what has been nothing short of a nightmare opening to the campaign for Hansi Flick’s squad on the injury front.
