La Liga giants Real Madrid have named their squad to take on Talavera in tonight’s Copa del Rey clash.
And the call-up features a whole host of noteworthy absentees.
Real Madrid are of course in the midst of something of a personnel crisis at present.
Xabi Alonso has over recent weeks seen his squad nothing short of ravaged by injuries, with Los Blancos’ backline having been hit particularly hard.
Even today, in the hours building up to the club’s cup opener, Real saw Raúl Asencio forced into a last-minute withdrawal owing to a bout of fever.
In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear of a heavily-affected matchday squad being called upon by Alonso and his staff on Wednesday.
Absent from the call-up to face Talavera are all of:
Thibaut Courtois, Dani Carvajal, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Éder Militão, Raúl Asencio, David Alaba, Antonio Rüdiger, Ferland Mendy, Eduardo Camavinga, Federico Valverde and Brahim Díaz.
This has given rise to a Blancos squad as follows:
Conor Laird – GSFN
