Newcastle United have submitted a formal bid to sign Atlético Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier, according to Sky Sports.
Talks between the clubs are ongoing as Newcastle look to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window.
Earlier on Saturday, Atlético manager Diego Simeone admitted that Trippier’s future depends on the player.
“We have always had these situations when very good players have the possibility of leaving. It will depend on what the player wants. We will then look for solutions. He is an important player for our team,” Simeone said.
Trippier has had a successful spell in Spain. Last season, he won a league title with Atlético and was named in the La Liga team of the year.
