New Real Madrid signing Álvaro Carreras has been brought in with a view to acting as the first-choice left-back in the club’s XI for the foreseeable future.
That’s according to Diario AS, who have on Wednesday provided an insight into the situation.
The name of defender Carreras has of course dominated the headlines in Spain’s capital across the week to date.
This comes after the 22-year-old’s long-anticipated arrival from Benfica was at last made official.
Carreras has put pen to paper on a contract with Real Madrid through the summer of 2031, a reunion between the parties after going their separate ways back in 2020.
And if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then the talented youngster has not been signed with a view to simply competing for a starting berth.
Carreras has been brought in to lock down the left flank in Xabi Alonso’s squad.
As per a report from AS:
‘The club’s plan is for him to be the starting left-back for the next six years. We’re talking about the second most expensive defender in the club’s history. A €50 million signing.’
