Newly-signed Real Madrid starlet Dean Huijsen has this week provided an insight into the fallout from his move to the Santiago Bernabéu being confirmed.
More specifically, the 20-year-old has opened up on the reaction of his teammates at international level to the news.
Defender Huijsen of course sealed a dream move to Real Madrid last month, after Los Blancos agreed to meet the release clause in his contract with Bournemouth.
Despite his tender years, the one-time Juventus talent will be expected to play a prominent role in the squad of new boss Xabi Alonso in 2025/26, already garnering lofty expectations when it comes to his performances over the years ahead.
After linking up with Luis de la Fuente’s Spanish ranks this week, the subject of his transfer, and the general reception of his international teammates, was therefore put to Huijsen himself.
And the stopper went on to admit that, whilst some have backed his decision to join Real Madrid, others, chiefly from Hansi Flick’s Barcelona squad, have made use of the opportunity to have some lighthearted fun at his expense:
“Some people in the national team tell me I’ve chosen the team very well, others, those at Barça, are making fun of me. We’re talking about the Clásico. I dreamed of playing for Real Madrid, and it’s come true. My goal was to play for Real Madrid. That’s where I wanted to be.”
