Dutch national team head coach Ronald Koeman has this weekend provided a fresh insight into the wellbeing of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong.
This of course comes after the midfielder was forced into a premature departure from international duty this week.
De Jong for his part featured from the off on Thursday night, as the Netherlands locked horns with Poland in a World Cup qualifier.
During the 2nd-half in Rotterdam, however, the former Ajax man was hooked from proceedings prematurely.
Speaking to the media post-match, the aforementioned Ronald Koeman revealed that as much came with De Jong having been suffering with a fitness problem.
After the 28-year-old flew back to Barcelona this weekend to undergo a round of tests and treatment, the Blaugrana’s former headmaster, in turn, provided the latest on the situation.
Speaking during an appearance in front of the media, Koeman explained:
“Frenkie already had symptoms during the game, that’s why we substituted him. I don’t think it’s very serious, but it’s too risky to let him play. It wasn’t enough to have a chance in Sunday’s game (vs Lithuania).”
