Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente has this week admitted to being delighted with the outcome of changing the role of Barcelona star Pedri in his XI.
Midfielder Pedri is for his part fresh off another pair of starring performances on the international front over recent days.
En route to back-to-back Spanish victories over Georgia and Bulgaria, the 22-year-old was afforded respective standing ovations on the part of the crowd.
This came after Pedri controlled proceedings from his berth in the middle of the park with trademark poise and guile.
The former Las Palmas talent’s role in La Roja’s team now mimics that of his position at Barcelona, picking the ball up from deep to move play forward.
As much comes after Luis de la Fuente was previously criticised for fielding Pedri in a more advanced berth.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his side’s win over Bulgaria, Spain’s headmaster was therefore not shy in admitting:
“Before I was playing Pedri as the attacking midfielder, with Merino behind him. However, thankfully I swapped them around. The players show their talent more and the team plays better. I made the right choice.”
