Monaco chief speaks on future of Barcelona’s Ansu Fati

AS Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro has provided an update on the club’s plans for the on-loan Ansu Fati.

This of course comes amid a remarkable recent return to form on the part of the 22-year-old.

Attacker Ansu for his part made the move to France from parent club Barcelona over the summer.

This comes after he struggled badly for game-time under the watch of new Blaugrana headmaster Hansi Flick last season.

Ansu endured something of an underwhelming start to life in Monaco colours, continuing to struggle for consistent minutes.

Over recent weeks, though, the Spaniard has suddenly exploded into life.

Looking full of confidence and with a spring in his step, Ansu has racked up six goals in his last five appearances, several of which proved crucial to Monaco’s fortunes.

Claims, in turn, have already begun to mount that the Monegasques will seek to make use of their option to make the winger’s signing permanent next summer.

Speaking during an exchange with the media on Tuesday, the aforementioned Thiago Scuro was therefore drawn on the possibility of as much.

Monaco’s sporting director, though, was quick to play the subject down, in explaining:

“The key is to continue giving Ansu the conditions so he can get playing time and be an important and consistent player for Monaco. Business isn’t important right now. When the time is right, we’ll make a decision. Monaco is protected in this situation by the agreement we have with the player and Barça. The goal is performance and keeping him on the pitch.”
