Míchel set to become new Olympiacos coach

According to radio station Cadena SER and confirmed by AS, Míchel is close to becoming Olympiacos’ new head coach.

The Spaniard is expected to arrive in Greece this afternoon to close the details of the agreement with the Greek side. He will replace compatriot Carlos Corberán, who has only won two games out of a possible of 11 this season. Olmypiacos are hoping to bounce back after their poor start to their Super League campaign. The reigning Greek champions are currently trailing league leaders Panathinaikos by seven points.

This would be Míchel’s second spell at Olympiacos, having already coached the side between 2013 and 2015. During that period he won two Super League titles and the Greek Cup.

The 59-year-old last managed Getafe, from where he was dismissed in October 2021 after only picking up one point from eight games.

At Olympiacos Míchel would have the opportunity to work with former Real Madrid players James Rodríguez and Marcelo.
