Mesut Özil labels Antonio Rüdiger the world’s best after Mallorca winner: “Look at Chelsea”

Former Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Özil has moved to lavish praise on current Blancos defender Antonio Rüdiger.

This comes after the German international proved himself a match-winner, in Real’s hard-fought La Liga downing of Mallorca.

After meeting Luka Modrić’s whipped corner from the left a little over ten minutes from time, Rüdiger directed a fine header into the top corner of the Mallorca net.

This came amid another stellar all-round display on the part of the 30-year-old, who, in the thick of a defensive injury crisis at the Santiago Bernabéu, has taken on the role of leader in impressive fashion.

And, as alluded to above, one former Blancos standout who has taken full notice of the recent excellence put forth by Rüdiger, comes in the form of Mesut Özil.

Taking to social media post-match this evening, ex-midfielder Özil labelled his fellow countryman ‘the world’s best defender’, before pointing towards Chelsea’s ongoing defensive struggles as evidence of Rüdiger’s importance:
