Memphis Depay’s situation at Atlético Madrid

Atlético Madrid have a number of absentees for Thursday’s La Liga game against Osasuna at El Sadar, report MD. One of them is Memphis Depay, who felt muscular discomfort in Tuesday’s training session and has been ruled out of the game.

Memphis played in the Madrid derby against Real Madrid on Sunday after several weeks on the sidelines, coming on in the second half, and just two days later, he had to pull out again due to more injury problems. Unfortunately for Atlético and the player, this has been the norm since he signed for the club in January from Barcelona.

It is the fourth injury suffered by the forward in eight months, two of them being thigh problems, and two being calf problems.

Depay at Atlético

Since he made his debut for Atlético (21 January), Los Colchoneros played 29 games before Sunday’s clash against Madrid. The former Manchester United player has only played in 13 of them and has started just five.

“He is a very important player for us. Hopefully, he can give us a lot,” said Diego Simeone on Wednesday, after the team’s last training session before the clash against Osasuna. Despite the short amount of game time, he has scored six goals for the club, a goal every 75 minutes.

Due to his latest setback, Álvaro Morata is currently the only No 9 option for Simeone.
