Marc-André ter Stegen makes surprise call on Barcelona future

Barcelona star Marc-André ter Stegen is currently not in favour of the idea of departing the club in January.

This comes with the German ready to stay put, to fight what currently looks like a losing battle for no.1 status in Hansi Flick’s squad.

The widespread expectation has long been that Ter Stegen would be on the move following the turn of the year.

Sitting third in the goalkeeper pecking order in Hansi Flick’s squad following his recent return from injury, the 33-year-old is in desperate need of minutes to secure for himself a place in Germany’s squad for next summer’s World Cup.

According to journalist Santi Ovalle, writing for Cadena SER this weekend, though:

‘He is aware that not playing for Barça complicates participation in the summer World Cup for the German national team,’ but nevertheless intends to remain in Catalunya’s capital for the duration of the campaign.

This situation could only change in the case of Ter Stegen being offered a leading role by a top club in one of Europe’s very top leagues.

Despite widespread interest, the former Borussia Monchengladbach man is not even considering a move to Turkey, for example.
