Manager explains Barcelona star’s international omission

Spanish U21 national team head coach David Gordo has provided an explanation for the absence of Barcelona star Marc Bernal from his latest squad.

Youngster Bernal is for his part of course currently working himself back towards full fitness.

This comes after a year on the sidelines in Catalunya’s capital, following an untimely ACL tear following his explosion onto the first-team picture at Barcelona.

With Bernal’s recovery having been ramped up over the last couple of months, he was tipped for an imminent return to national team duty with Spain, too.

After Barca informed the RFEF that their midfield talent was not in a fit state to participate in last month’s round of fixtures, however, the situation remains unchanged this time round.

Speaking after leaving Bernal out of his squad for an upcoming pair of fixtures against San Marino and Romania, Spain U21 boss David Gordo therefore explained:

“Marc Bernal is one of us. But he is not living in a comfortable situation at the moment. With a few minutes. And we have brought the list that we consider will help us the most to get six transcendental points for our qualification.”
