Luka Modrić set for over a week on the sidelines

Luka Modrić will be out for 8 to 10 days after returning from international duty with Croatia with a muscle strain in his hip, according to Marca.

The Real Madrid player featured in both of his national team’s matches during the break. Madrid hope he will be ready to play in El Clásico on 16 October.

The news was confirmed on Wednesday. Tests have determined that he is suffering from a hip problem, which will rule him out for around a week.

He will miss the matches against Osasuna (2 October), Shakhtar Donetsk (5 October) and Getafe (8 October), and it is hoped that he will be able to play against Shakhtar on 11 October in order to be in the best possible condition for El Clásico against Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Modrić played in Croatia’s two Nations League group matches against Denmark and Austria. With the victory over Austria, Croatia booked their place in the Nations League finals.
