Inter Miami star Luis Suárez has this weekend opened up on a number of topics surrounding former employers Barcelona.
The subject of Barca’s glory days, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the media headlines over the last 24 hours.
This comes after all of Suarez, Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba reconvened, to take part in their first pre-season training session with Inter Miami.
Each of this quartet played a pivotal role in one of the greatest Barcelona sides in history, with their reunion at club level having in turn sparked inevitable nostalgia across the football world.
Speaking in a press conference this weekend, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his Blaugrana days was put to prolific frontman Suárez.
And, amongst a host of interesting insights, perhaps the most noteworthy came in the form of the Uruguayan admitting that he, along with all of Messi, Busquets, and Alba, ‘dreamed’ of bringing their collective playing days to a close at the Camp Nou:
“In 2019 we imagined winning everything at Barcelona and we dreamed of retiring there,” he explained, as cited by Marca. “First I left and then they all left after me.”
From here, Suarez also went on to confirm plans for the quartet to meet up late on Sunday evening, to watch their former side battle it out with Real Madrid for the Supercopa de España title:
“We haven’t talked about it yet but we’re certainly going to meet up to watch it because we like football, we like Barcelona and a Super Cup final is always nice to see. You know which team we will be rooting for. I wish the club and some of my team-mates there all the best,”
