Luis de la Fuente counts on Sergio Busquets in the national team

Luis de la Fuente has revealed that he is counting on Sergio Busquets in the Spanish national team.

Following Spain’s shock exit from the World Cup in the round of last 16 against Morocco and the departure of Luis Enrique, questions were raised whether the new head coach has the national team’s captain in his plans.

In an interview that appeared in Mundo Deportivo, De la Fuente reaffirmed that he is intending to call up Busquets in the future:

“I’m delighted that Busquets wants to continue, he’s living football history, not in the past, but in the present and future. I think he still has a lot to give to Spanish football. How can I not want to count on Busquets?”

He was also asked about Eric García, who has received a lot of criticism recently:

“Eric García is a fantastic player who fits our model. At a certain point he was put under a lot of pressure, but with peace of mind he will perform at a high level.”
