The recent woes being endured by Premier League champions Liverpool have this week been attributed in no small part to the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Defender Alexander-Arnold of course brought a close to his career-long stint on the books of Liverpool this past summer.
After making the call not to renew his contract terms at Anfield, the England international put pen to paper on terms with La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid.
Liverpool opted to replace their long-time right-back with Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen.
The Dutchman, however, has since struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, singled out for heavy criticism for the level of his performances.
Arne Slot’s Reds have as a whole struggled over the last couple of weeks, knocked off their perch atop the English top-flight table amid a run of three successive defeats across all competitions.
And of the opinion that such struggles come in no small part owing to the absence of the aforementioned Alexander-Arnold is compatriot Gary Lineker.
Speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast this week, ex-striker Lineker revealed his take that:
“Liverpool are really missing Trent. What he gives you on attack is impossible to replace. There is not another player who plays that position in the way that he plays. Mo Salah’s also missing him because of the connection they had. Stop worrying about him making the odd tiny mistake defensively because what he gives you offensively is just incredible.”
