Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo is under contract at Camp Nou until June 2023 and the Catalan club have always intended to sign him to a new deal.

Barça recently agreed new deals with Pedri and Ansu Fati and want to do the same with Araújo and Gavi as both are considered important parts of the club’s future.

Sources close to the negotiations tell ESPN that an agreement with the 22-year-old is not going to be as simple as with Pedri or Fati as several Premier League teams are also on the lookout.

Barcelona were confident of keeping Araújo for the next five seasons but according to ESPN, after initial talks, the club understand that the Uruguayan’s financial demands are higher than expected and are aware that they cannot compete with the financial muscle of Premier League clubs.

Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on the centre-back’s progress for some time. Chelsea and Manchester United are also reportedly keeping tabs on the Uruguay international.
