Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami reject offer to face Barcelona

The powers that be at MLS outfit Inter Miami have turned down the opportunity to face off against one of world football’s biggest clubs.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have today provided an insight into the situation.

Inter, it is claimed, were recently contacted by none other than Barcelona, to gauge the club’s interest in playing out a friendly in Miami next summer.

This comes with Xavi’s Barca having already pencilled in a pre-season tour of the USA, as part of their preparations for the 2024/25 campaign.

The proposed clash would have seen a host of familiar faces reunited with the Blaugrana, after all of Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and, most recently, Luis Suárez followed Lionel Messi in putting pen to paper on terms with Inter.

As alluded to above, though, for the time being at least, no such meeting will take place.

This comes after the board at the DRV PNK Stadium reached the collective decision to politely decline Barcelona’s offer.

Inter, for their part, will find themselves in the thick of preparations for the defence of their Leagues Cup crown on the dates proposed by Joan Laporta and co.

With the Copa América also set to come to a conclusion just weeks prior, the MLS outfit have in turn understandably thought it best to decline, for the wellbeing of the club’s star performers.
