Lionel Messi still leads Vinícius Jr. and all La Liga players in one stat

Barcelona legend Lionel Messi remains the leader in one statistical category stretching back to the 2016/17 La Liga campaign.

This of course comes despite the fact that the Argentine has not been plying his club trade in Spain since all the way back in 2021.

The stat in question, it should come as little surprise to hear, surrounds dribbling.

Eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi remains widely regarded as one of, if not the best dribbler in football history.

As much is reflected in the fact that, in just 172 La Liga outings between 2016 and 2021, the attacker racked up a whopping 786 completed take-ons.

This remains, by some distance, the most completed since 2016 in Spain’s top-flight.

Next on the list comes Real Madrid wide-man Vinícius Jr, who has managed 506 such take-ons in 42 more games played.
