Lionel Messi has spoken in an interview with Miguel Granados, host and comedian, for the programme “Soñé que volaba” (I dreamt I was flying) which is broadcast on YouTube.
Messi provided more certainty about his future with the Argentina national team and his possible presence at the 2026 World Cup. “I don’t know if I’ll make it to the next World Cup. I’m not thinking about it yet because it’s a long way off,” he said in words picked up by Mundo Deportivo.
“My objective is to play in the Copa America… that’s what I’m thinking about, then I’ll see if I’ll play at the World Cup. It depends on how I feel. The years have gone by. We’ll have to see how I feel. There are still three years to go.”
The Inter Miami player also opened up on the possibility of playing for Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys. “The idea was always there – and even more so after becoming a World Cup winner – to enjoy Argentine football, to play for Newell’s. I used to go there as a kid. I used to go to the pitch there, it was my dream.”
