Speaking in a press conference on Monday, Kylian Mbappé discussed his reasons for staying with PSG and he also had a message for Real Madrid fans.
“I made the decision [to stay] last week and I didn’t tell my teammates. You are all surprised. Then I made the decision after I called Florentino Pérez. I have great respect for them [Real Madrid]. They did everything to facilitate my arrival at the club and I thank them. I had the duty to tell them personally. We came to an agreement to finalise the contract details,” Mbappé said in quotes reported by AS.
“Everyone knows that I wanted to leave in the summer and it was the best possible decision at the time. The years change. The context is different now. It is a different context. I know what I can bring to my country, it’s a country where I dream to play.”
Message for Real Madrid fans
“I thank them, I understand their disappointment. I hope they understand my decision to stay in my country because I am French and I love my country.”
