Key Atalanta star left out of Super Cup squad to face Real Madrid

A headline member of the midfield ranks at Serie A outfit Atalanta will play no part in Wednesday’s fast-approaching UEFA Super Cup.

This comes amid confirmation that he has been omitted from the club’s travelling squad for the Warsaw showpiece.

The player in question? Teun Koopmeiners.

Dutch international Koopmeiners has for his part taken his place front and centre in the Italian media headlines over the course of the last week.

This comes after Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini confirmed reports that the 26-year-old was refusing to train with the rest of his squad, amid efforts to push through a move to Serie A rivals Juventus.

And, evidently, a resolution between the parties has since not been found…

As confirmed by a number of sources across the Italian media, Koopmeiners has not been called up to Atalanta’s squad for Wednesday’s European Super Cup.

A further boost for a Real Madrid side who were already considered the overwhelming favourites to emerge triumphant in Warsaw…
