Karim Benzema: “I have a lot of confidence in myself.”

In a post-match interview with Movistar, Karim Benzema gave his thoughts on the seven-goal thriller with Manchester City.

“Defeat is never a good thing. The important thing is that we never gave up, right to the end.

Now we have to go to the Bernabéu. We need the fans like never before and we’re going to do something magical, which is win”.

When did you decide, after missing two penalties in Pamplona, to take a Panenka-style penalty?

“I always have it in my head that if you don’t take a penalty, you’re never going to miss a penalty. The penalty was all about confidence. So that’s mental confidence and that’s it. I have a lot of confidence in myself.”

Benzema played his 600th match for Madrid against City and scored his 13th and 14th Champions League goals of the season.
