Kang-In Lee set to join Mallorca on free transfer from Valencia

Kang-In Lee will join Mallorca on a free transfer from Valencia, according to Cadena SER.

He is expected to fly to the island on Sunday to undergo a medical and sign his contract. Kang-In Lee has chosen Mallorca’s offer over the one he had on the table from Wolves.

Kang-In Lee leaves the club after a decade, having arrived in Valencia without speaking Spanish or knowing English when he was just 10 years old. In order for Valencia to be able to sign new forward Marcos André, the South Korean has left on a free transfer. Valencia will receive no financial compensation for a player whose last contract included a clause of €80 million.

Valencia knew since December 2020 that Kang-In Lee was not going to renew his contract. The club had even considered the possibility of his departure in January, although the option was ruled out and the whole thing was left until the summer. But the signing of Omar Alderete, the decision to continue with Maxi Gómez for another year and the subsequent interest in Marcos André turned Kang-in Lee’s situation into an issue to be resolved by the club as they needed to free up a place to sign the Brazilian striker.

The 20-year-old played 62 games for Valencia, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
