Julián Araujo on joining Barcelona: “I’m very happy about this big step in my career.”

In one of the most dramatic deadline day stories, FC Barcelona scrambled to replace the departing Héctor Bellerín with a young right-back from the MLS. However, Julián Araujo’s signing was delayed by paperwork arriving a mere 18 seconds too late.

The Blaugrana are close to officially announcing his signing, as reported by Relevo. The Mexican defender arrived in the city of Barcelona shortly before the 2-2 Europa League draw against Manchester United at Camp Nou on Thursday.

Araujo, 21, will join Barcelona B, coached by Rafael Márquez and the Mexican head coach has already expressed his delight to have him on board. He commented on Barcelona having followed the player for a long time and is confident he’ll have a good career with the Catalan club.

On his arrival in the Spanish city, the right-back made no secret of his excitement at taking this step.

“I’m very happy about this big step in my career and I’m ready to give everything for this great club,” the Mexico international said to reporters upon his arrival in Catalonia.
