Atlético Madrid star Julián Alvarez has on Saturday evening sent a heartfelt apology the way of all associated with the Rojiblancos.
This of course comes after the Argentine actively sought out a move away from Spain’s capital over the summer. Amid intense interest in his services on the part of La Liga rivals Barcelona, Alvarez made public his desire for a new challenge:
“I spoke with people at the club, with those I had to speak with, and the best thing for everyone is a transfer and I want to fulfil my dream.”
In the end, Alvarez’s request was denied, as those in a position of power at the Metropolitano made clear that they would under no circumstances sell to a direct rival.
The season’s early weeks, in turn, saw Atléti’s star man targeted in ruthless fashion by his side’s supporters. More recent weeks, though, have seen tensions subside, as the two parties work to get back on the same page.
And as alluded to above, on Saturday, Alvarez has publicly moved to squash his problems with the Atléti faithful once and for all.
Fresh off netting the winning goal in a La Liga victory over Deportivo La Coruña, the talented frontman explained:
“I apologise to our fans. They have always been very generous with me. It was neither the right moment nor the right way to handle things. If I were a fan, I would have been angry too.
”Now, it’s time to compete for everything.”
