Júlian Álvarez’s move from Premier League champions Manchester City to Atlético Madrid has been one of the most high-profile transfers in Spain this summer.
Many have been quick to ask why a player at a successful club like Man City would pack his bags and head to Spain for a new challenge.
Now, courtesy of Cadena SER, we have a bit of insight into the Argentinian striker’s thinking regarding the move, and his reasons for making it.
The main reason given by the 24-year-old is the need for a change of scenery, with the striker having explained: “I felt that I needed a change in my career, to look for a new challenge and I feel that it is a club that gives me the space to be the best version of myself.”
Álvarez also cited the impact that many Argentinians have had on the club as a reason for joining, mentioning that his interactions with Diego Simeone had a massive impact on his decision to move.
Atlético Madrid will kick off their season on Monday night, as they head to Villarreal for the club’s La Liga opener, a match which Álvarez will likely be keen to start.
