Julen Lopetegui: “Isco will mark an era at Sevilla.”

Sevilla were held to a 0-0 draw by Copenhagen at the Parken stadium in the second round of the Champions League group stage.

Despite the disappointing result, Julen Lopetegui spoke highly of Isco, who missed five clear chances during the game:

“Even if he is not at his best, he will mark an era at Sevilla, but we need the rest of the players to take on his personality and confidence. We have to approach games with that mentality. It’s not easy to generate five clear chances.”

The Sevilla coach remains confident that they can still progress to the next round of the competition:

“A point is better than none, it’s better to draw than to lose. We still have games against direct rivals and opportunities to continue to grow. We have four games left in the Champions League left and we will fight hard to get into the next knockout phase. There are twelve points left to play for.”

In the post-match interview that was transcribed by AS, Lopetegui spoke highly of his young players and his defensive line:

“We deserved the three points with the chances created, but if you don’t score it complicates things and you get punished. And I would like to highlight all the defensive work and the work of the youngsters. We’re sad because we came here with the idea of gaining three points, but we failed to do so.”
