José Mourinho wants Real Madrid legend at Benfica

New Benfica head coach José Mourinho has set his sights on the signing of a former member of his attacking ranks at Real Madrid.

That’s according to Marca, who point towards Karim Benzema as the player in question.

Frontman Benzema for his part spent three years plying his trade under the watch of Mourinho during a shared stint in Spain’s capital.

The former has since gone on to take his talents to Saudi Arabia, having spent the last two years on the books of Al-Ittihad.

Mourinho, meanwhile, has taken his managerial talents all across Europe, taking charge of Tottenham Hotspur, AS Roma, Fenerbahçe and more.

And as alluded to above, fresh off being appointed to his latest post at Benfica, the Portuguese is eyeing a reunion with Benzema.

As per a report from Marca:

‘Karim Benzema is closer to returning to Europe than many people might have thought. Or rather, if the move happens, it will happen in the January transfer window. His possible destination is none other than Benfica.’

Mourinho, it is claimed, has already made personal contact with the veteran goalscorer, with Benzema for his part mulling over the move.
