Former Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has set his sights on the signature of a current member of the defensive ranks in Spain’s capital.
That’s according to Fichajes, citing reports stemming from Portugal, who point towards Ferland Mendy as the player in question.
Stopper Mendy is for his part yet to take to the pitch this season, owing to injury.
Upon his return to fitness, though, the Frenchman is expected to be demoted to third-choice left-back in Xabi Alonso’s squad.
And keen to take advantage of this situation, it is understood, is the aforementioned José Mourinho.
As per Fichajes, Benfica are on the lookout for reinforcements at full-back with a view to the 2nd half of the campaign.
And Mendy, owing to his experience and ability in one-on-one situations, is considered the ideal profile of signing by the Lisbon club’s new manager.
An offer in the region of €10 million, in turn, could be tabled for the 30-year-old in the January transfer window.
