Joel Robles close to signing for Leeds United

Joel Robles is set to sign for Leeds United, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

Following the injury of back-up keeper Kristoffer Klaesson, Leeds were in the market to find a replacement and provide competition for their first-choice Illan Meslier.

The Premier League will not be unfamiliar territory for Robles, having played there with Wigan Athletic and Everton for six seasons between 2012 and 2018. He kept a clean sheet in the 2013 FA Cup final, in which The Lactics defeated Manchester City 1-0.

The 32-year-old will bring much needed experience into this Leeds side and will be an excellent alternative if Meslier gets injured.

The Spanish keeper spent the past four years playing for Real Betis. However, he fell down the pecking order and only made three appearances in the Copa del Rey this past season. The Andalucían side chose not to renew his contract, meaning he can join Leeds as a free agent.
