Joan Laporta provides Leo Messi statue update

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has provided an update on the club’s plans to erect a statue for the great Lionel Messi.

Laporta of course turned heads across the world of football with a round of comments regarding Messi last week.

This came in the aftermath of the Argentine paying a surprise visit to the newly-renovated Spotify Camp Nou.

Drawn on the situation during an ensuing exchange with the media, Barca’s president then made use of the opportunity to announce:

“Leo Messi deserves to have a statue at the new stadium. We will prepare a design, talk to the family and if they agree we can proceed for that.”

Speaking during a fresh interview with RAC1 (as cited by Diario Sport) on Tuesday, Laporta was therefore asked for an update on the situation.

And the Spanish patron went on to explain:

“We haven’t presented the proposal to Messi yet and we haven’t had any notification, but the proposal will be made in due course.”
