Joan Laporta paid tribute to Xavi during Barca Femení Champions League celebrations

Barcelona president Joan Laporta this weekend made use of the opportunity to show his appreciation for departing head coach Xavi.

As much came in the thick of the celebrations, on the back of Barca Femení’s Champions League triumph.

Jonatan Giráldez’s troops clinched glory on the continent on Saturday night, putting Lyon to the sword by two goals to nil at San Mamés.

Post-match, a private function was held for Barca’s stars in Bilbao, which saw players, staff and board members alike come together to celebrate a historic achievement.

And, during as much, president Joan Laporta was sure to take a moment to pay tribute to a man whose Blaugrana chapter will this evening come to a close.

Xavi was of course informed earlier this week that he will be relieved of his duties on the touchline in Catalunya’s capital with a view to next season, as the club seek out a new direction.

With a view to the former midfielder’s final game on the touchline against Sevilla on Sunday night, Laporta, during a heartfelt speech, therefore called for cheers and applause for the outgoing Xavi.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who also point towards Barcelona’s leaders as having been highly appreciative of Xavi’s class during his final press conference as manager on Saturday.
