Sidelined Barcelona star travels for Xavi’s final game as manager

A sidelined member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona accompanied the rest of the club’s squad, for their meeting with Sevilla on Sunday.

Barca will of course bring a close to the club’s 2023/24 campaign later this evening, in a meeting with Quique’s Sevilla at The Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

Though little is on the line when it comes to the season as a whole, the matchup, on the Blaugrana side of things, will mark a significant one with a view to the future.

This comes with it set to mark the last of Xavi’s reign as manager, ahead of the imminent appointment of Hansi Flick as his successor.

Just weeks on from his continuity for next season being confirmed, Xavi was informed this past Friday that his services will no longer be required beyond the summer.

A popular figure in the dressing room in Catalunya’s capital, news of their headmaster’s dismissal no doubt marked a heavy blow for a number of Barcelona’s stars.

And one such player, in the form of Gavi, therefore made sure that he would under no circumstances miss out on Sunday.

Midfielder Gavi is of course sidelined long-term present, not expected to return to the pitch until early next season.

The 19-year-old, though, was spotted amongst the travelling party bound for Andalusia earlier today, as Barca’s squad prepare to bid farewell to their boss of two-and-a-half years.
