Barcelona president Joan Laporta has late this week moved to defend Blaugrana star Ronald Araújo.
This of course comes as backlash against the Uruguayan continues to mount across the fanbase of the Spanish champions.
Araújo is for his part fresh off an outing to forget in midweek.
Already under fire for the level of his performances across the early months of the term, the 26-year-old was restored to starting duties for Barcelona’s Champions League trip to Chelsea.
En route to a 3-0 drubbing at Stamford Bridge, however, Araújo cost his teammates dear, in being needlessly sent off during the first-half.
The criticism of the stopper has since been as harsh as it has swift, as many go as far as to call for Araújo to be sold.
During an appearance in front of the media on Friday, the aforementioned Joan Laporta therefore made use of the opportunity to throw his full backing behind the South American:
“I want to defend Araújo and encourage him. He has faced a lot of criticism and this is not fair. He gives everything on the pitch. He is our leader.” LHe must get through this period. I tell him that we are with him: we win and lose together. We are one team. No single person is responsible for the win or the loss.”
