Joan Laporta claims Barcelona should be leading La Liga: ‘Against Elche, Real Madrid…’

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has late this week turned heads across the Spanish football landscape.

This comes after the businessman revealed his take that the Blaugrana, and not arch rivals Real Madrid, should currently boast table-topping status in La Liga.

Faced by the media on Friday, Laporta took full use of the opportunity to aim a fresh dig at Los Blancos:

“At Elche, Real Madrid scored two goals to be clearly disallowed. Bellingham touches the ball with his arm in the first one… and in the other Vinícius breaks Iñaki’s nose. Without those two goals, Barça would be leading the league.”

Laporta’s comments relate to Real Madrid’s trip to Alicante to face Elche last weekend.

Xabi Alonso’s troops were ultimately forced to settle for a share of the spoils in the clash, owing to a 2-2 draw.

Things could easily have been much worse for the visitors, however, who required a pair of late goals to snatch a point.

Not only that, but both of their goals came in controversial circumstances, as, first, Jude Bellingham appeared to touch the ball with his arm before it was directed home by Dean Huijsen.

Then, in the game’s dying moments, Vinícius Jr. collided with Iñaki Peña before Bellingham was left with an empty net to slot home into.
