January Real Madrid signing given surprise last-minute call for trip to Manchester City

A highly-regarded member of the youth ranks at Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid is set to make the journey to Manchester with the club’s first-team squad this week.

That’s according to Relevo, who have tonight provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in the Spanish capital.

Real are of course currently going through their final preparations, for what many would no doubt argue represents their most important fixture of the campaign to date.

As much comes in the form of a showdown with Premier League champions Manchester City, in the 2nd leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie between the clubs.

Things currently sit on a knife-edge, owing to a pulsating 3-3 draw at the Santiago Bernabéu last week.

Safe to say, then, that Carlo Ancelotti’s squad are no doubt already fully locked in, for what could mark a season-defining clash on Wednesday night.

In turn, it has come as a major surprise to hear that, at the last minute, Ancelotti and his coaching staff have come to the decision to allow a member of the club’s academy setup to join Los Blancos’ stars on their trip to England.

As per the aforementioned Relevo:

‘Jeremy de León will join the expedition to Manchester despite not appearing on the squad list published by the club.’

De León, for his part, made the move to Madrid during the January transfer window, from Spanish 3rd tier outfit Castellón.

A 19-year-old winger, he is understood to have caught the eye of the coaching staff at Valdebebas, through an impressive combination of touch, explosive pace, and directness.

De León has as a result been rewarded for his recent efforts, by way of a spot on the plane to Manchester.

The Puerto Rican will not be eligible to feature against City, or even take his place on Real’s bench, but the experience, nevertheless, will mark one that De León does not soon forget.
