Real Madrid star Dean Huijsen has this week taken full responsibility for his side’s defeat at the hands of city rivals Atlético. This of course comes after the defender endured an outing to forget at the Metropolitano.
Huijsen for his part featured from the off in the first Madrid Derby of the new campaign, hopeful of carrying forth a fine opening to the term from an individual standpoint.
En route to an eventual 2-1 defeat for the visitors, however, the Spanish international was a leading figure in Real’s demise.
After dragging down Giuliano Simeone inside his side’s penalty area, Huijsen was shown a straight red card for a last-man offence. On top of that, Atléti were awarded a penalty, which was subsequently dispatched by Alejandro Grimaldo.
During an appearance in front of the media this week, the defensive starlet therefore made use of the opportunity to own up to his shortcomings. Speaking to OK Diario, as cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Huijsen admitted:
“In my view, the Madrid Derby defeat is on me. It’s my responsibility. We could have won the game.”
