‘It’s not normal’ – Luis de la Fuente assures Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal ‘wanted to stay’

Spanish national team head coach Luis de la Fuente has this week continued to add fuel to the fire amid the ongoing back-and-forth between La Roja and La Liga champions Barcelona.

This of course comes fresh off another falling out between the parties on Tuesday.

Spain announced earlier today that Lamine Yamal had been sent home from the country’s latest camp, ahead of an upcoming pair of World Cup qualifiers.

As much came owing to discomfort being dealt with by the winger following a round of treatment for his persistent pubalgia problems.

The reigning European champions also made clear in their statement, though, that they were not informed of Barcelona’s plans to carry out the radiofrequency procedure ahead of time.

The news therefore left all associated with the Spanish camp in a state of ‘surprise and discomfort’.

And as alluded to above, drawn on the situation during an ensuing exchange with the media, Luis de la Fuente did little to play down what he deemed a lack of ‘respect’ on the part of Barca:

“There are procedures that happen outside the Federation’s control. That’s just how it is, and we have to accept it,. I’ve never experienced a situation like this before. I don’t think it’s very normal. Of course, it surprised me, like everyone else. You have no prior knowledge, you don’t know any details, and I insist, with health issues… you’re left surprised.

“Lamine wanted to stay. He’s completely committed to the national team. Just as I respect Barça’s decisions, I demand that mine be respected.”
