Incoming Real Madrid signing Kylian Mbappé joins Lionel Messi in Champions League record books

Soon-to-be Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé etched his name ever further into the history books of European football on Tuesday evening.

As much came by way of the France international’s latest scintillating individual display.

Frontman Mbappé marked his return to action on the continent late last night.

After playing a central role in Paris Saint-Germain carving out a 2-0 first leg advantage at the Parc des Princes three weeks ago, the 25-year-old was afforded a starting berth once more, on this occasion at Real Sociedad’s Anoeta.

And, when all was said and done, Mbappé, again, proved himself the difference-maker.

Notching both of his side’s goals, the former Monaco man guided PSG to a 2-0 triumph in San Sebastian, booking their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in the process.

And yet, as alluded to above, Mbappé’s latest brace proved significant in far more than simply keeping alive PSG’s hunt for a first-ever title in Europe’s elite club competition.

In addition, it saw the prolific wide-man secure for himself a piece of history.

As per a report from the BBC, on Tuesday, Mbappé became the 2nd youngest player ever to reach the 45-goal mark in the Champions League.

The only player to have managed as much at a younger age? Ex-teammate and eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi.
