Ilkay Gündogan lands in Barcelona to join up with Xavi’s squad

New Barcelona signing Ilkay Gündogan arrived in Barcelona on Saturday.

“I’m very happy to finally be in Barcelona. I’m looking forward to a great season and the first game,” the German creator told the club’s media in words reported by Mundo Deportivo after being welcomed by employees of the club at El Prat airport.

The former Borussia Dortmund (2011-16) and Manchester City (2016-23) player will sign a contract tomorrow until 2025 with an option for a further year. His clause is €400 million.

The 32-year-old added: “It’s a dream to be at Barça. I remember when I was a kid and I watched Rijkaard and Pep’s Barça. I’m a Barça fan, I’ve followed them closely every season and I’m very happy and very proud to be part of this team.”

On expectations for the season

“I expect good football. I think there is a lot of potential in the team with very young players and I believe that with my experience I can help them reach their next level. The potential is there, that’s why I came here, and that’s why I will work hard to enjoy it.”
