“I came here to win” – İlkay Gündoğan frustrated with dressing room after El Clásico defeat

As reported by Marca, German midfielder İlkay Gündoğan (33) was left frustrated after FC Barcelona’s 2-1 loss against bitter rival Real Madrid in Saturday’s El Clásico. Gündoğan put the home side one nil up, but two second-half goals by Jude Bellingham, including a goal in added time, meant that the three points went the way of Los Blancos.

In the aftermath, Gündoğan appeared incredibly frustrated when responding to journalists as Barcelona’s defeat leaves them four points off the league leaders Real Madrid, specifically regarding the attitude in the dressing room after the match.

The treble winner commented, “I don’t want to say something wrong, but I was in the dressing room, and obviously everyone was disappointed, but especially after such a big game, I wanted to see more frustration, more anger, more disappointment.”

He further added, “When you lose and don’t react, this transfers to the pitch… we need to improve on that, otherwise Real Madrid, or even Girona is going to run away, and I didn’t come here to lose this type of game.”

Following the defeat, Barcelona sit in third place, four points behind Real Madrid and Girona, while Atlético Madrid are two points behind Barcelona in fourth with two games in hand.
