How Xabi Alonso reacted to Vinícius Jr’s Real Madrid apology

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso was left delighted by the maturity shown by Vinícius Jr. in issuing an apology for his behaviour in last weekend’s El Clásico.

Wide-man Vinícius of course grabbed the headlines across Spain once more on Wednesday.

This came upon the Brazilian taking to social media, to send an apology out to the club’s fans, staff and more.

After being widely criticised for his furious reaction to being hauled off early against Barcelona, Vinícius wrote:

‘Today I want to apologize to all the Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clásico. Just as I have already done in person during today’s training, I also want to apologize again to my teammates, the club, and the president. Sometimes passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive character stems from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents. I promise to keep fighting every second for the good of Real Madrid, as I have done since the first day.’

One individual not explicitly mentioned in the 25-year-old’s apology message was manager Xabi Alonso.

Despite the Spaniard having been the chief target of Vinícius’ rant, the attacker did not deem it necessary to mention Alonso by name.

This, however, had little effect on the tactician’s response to Viní’s gesture.

As confirmed by El Chiringuito TV:

‘Xabi Alonso was very satisfied and happy with Vinícius’ step of asking for forgiveness.’
