How Spain could line up under new head coach Luis de la Fuente

According to AS, the starting lineup new Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente tried out at Las Rozas this week was as follows:

(4-2-3-1) Kepa – Carvajal, Laporte, Iñigo Martínez, Gayà – Rodri, Zubimendi – Ceballos, Iago Aspas, Gavi – Morata.

Joselu, Dani Olmo and Borja Iglesias have also had the chance to play and try out the new system, as have Mikel Merino, Mikel Oyarzabal and Fabián Ruiz in deeper roles.

If there are no last-minute changes, De la Fuente’s first competitive team will be the one named above. The coach has admitted that “selecting is a problem because everyone has trained with enthusiasm and at a high level”.

The competition is noticeable in the group of players, who know that the new coach, who previously worked with the Spain U21 side, comes with new ideas and that everyone has a chance to earn a place in the team.

In addition to Kepa in goal, the main changes he has tried out are Rodri with Zubimendi in midfield. The presence of Gavi on the left flank is also something new, although the Andalusian midfielder has already been playing the role with Xavi at Barcelona.

Aspas will likely play behind Morata as that is where the Galician can work best with his ability to provide the final pass.
