How Real Madrid signed Aurélien Tchouaméni

Real Madrid confirmed the signing of France international Aurélien Tchouaméni on Saturday.

Marca have produced a report explaining how Real Madrid went about signing Tchouaméni from AS Monaco.

Negotiations began in September and the official announcement comes after months of talks, meetings, live matches involving the player, and videos. And after all the work done by Real Madrid, they finally have their man.

They approached the Eduardo Camavinga transfer in a similar way, leaving no stone unturned.

Madrid knew since January that Tchouaméni was the ideal fit for their midfield. The 22-year-old is the profile the club is looking for, someone committed, professional, with a great future ahead of him.

After chief scout Juni Calafat’s trip to Monaco in April, everything started coming together, however, club directors decided that everything would be put on hold until Kylian Mbappé’s final decision was made.

Tchouaméni wanted to leave Ligue 1 and Monaco needed money. Faced with this situation, the player listened to Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp’s insistence made him hesitate.

In the Monaco dressing room, he confessed that with Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Luka Modric ahead of him it would be very difficult to be a starter under Carlo Ancelotti.

In the same week that Mbappé announced his renewal with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid resumed negotiations with the player. After a trip to Monaco and a handshake, the move was back on track. Although at this stage Madrid had not yet reached an agreement.

Until then, no one from Real Madrid had officially approached Monaco because the priority was Mbappé. Negotiations began again and after talks between the parties, the sides finally came to an agreement.

Tchouaméni had decided that his future was with Real Madrid, and turned down offers from Liverpool and PSG.

Last Tuesday the agreement looked all but done and the contracts began to be drawn up, but like with Mbappé, the signing was not completed, and they weren’t celebrating just yet in Valdebebas. They had learned their lesson from the Mbappé saga.

On Saturday morning, Monaco and Real Madrid made the transfer of Aurélien Tchouaméni official. The France international has signed with Madrid for the next six seasons in what looks to be a major coup.

Real Madrid are signing a player that everyone is raving about, who is predicted to dominate in midfield for Los Blancos over the coming years.

Where he fits in Ancelotti’s midfield remains to be seen.
