An insight into the immediate reaction of those behind the scenes at Real Madrid to news of the cancellation of the USA-based fixture between Barcelona and Villarreal has been forthcoming online.
The subject of the planned meeting between Barca and Villarreal has of course dominated the Spanish media headlines over the last 24 hours.
This comes after confirmation was forthcoming that the matchup will not go ahead in Florida.
Following a heavy backlash and widespread protests across the La Liga landscape this past weekend, those overseeing Spanish football made the call to shift the game back to base at La Cerámica.
Chief amongst those against the plans were those in the boardroom at Real Madrid, adamant that as much would have seen the integrity of the season as a whole brought into disrepute.
In turn, it should not come as much of a surprise to learn of Los Blancos’ reaction to Tuesday’s update.
As per a report from COPE:
‘Madrid are satisfied with the cancellation of the Villarreal-Barça match in Miami. They believe it would have set a serious precedent.’
