How much are La Liga’s referees paid per year?

An insight into the wage packets afforded to La Liga’s team of officials has today been provided.

The info comes courtesy of The Athletic, and points towards referees in Spain’s top-flight doing rather well for themselves on the financial front.

In fact, on average, those overseeing fixtures in La Liga are better paid than their counterparts in any of Europe’s other top-5 leagues.

That is, England, Italy, Germany, or France, as well as Major League Soccer in the USA.

The basic salary afforded to Spain’s leading officials comes in at £124,256.

This, though, is added to considerably by a further £4,205-per-match refereeing fee, or £2,102-per-match VAR room charge.

And La Liga refs secure an extra £21,929 through image rights, too.

As much comes owing to a standing agreement with the Wurth Group, who advertise their brand on the officials’ matchday kits.
